STICK TO GOLF SURVEY (conducted in spring 2003):
- 631 students ages 8 through 11 were surveyed by physical education teachers at six (6) schools in three (3) school districts within the region of The First Tee, Corning
- These students had no organized community junior golf programs prior to Stick to Golf.
- Stick to Golf has been facilitated for one or more years in their physical education classes.
- The per capita income in these communities is below the New York State per capita income.
- 35.2% of these students reported that they had played golf on a golf course at least one time.
- 13.6% of these students reported that they had played golf on a golf course eight (8) or more times.
NATIONAL DATA (from the National Golf Foundation and the U. S. Census Bureau):
- 9.6% of children ages 5 through 11 have played golf at least one time.
- No data is available for children ages 5 through 11 who have played golf 8 or more times.
Observations:
The survey suggests that within the region of The First Tee, Corning, 3.7 times greater incidence in student play on a golf course is the result of the Stick to Golf School Program.
